St. Peters Dunboyne

Sunday October 8th

Half time: Meath 1 – 08 – Tyrone 0 – 08

Full time: Meath 2 – 15 – Tyrone 0 – 15

Meath U21s set out their stall early in this game when Captain Niamh Gallogly scored after just 20 seconds of the game. The Meath girls indeed ran up a four point to one lead in the first ten minutes.

A well worked move then saw the ball put through to Gallogly again and this time she sent it past the diving Tyrone keeper. Meath were in a confident mood and led at this stage by a goal and five points to Tyrones two points. Tyrone though were not going to give up at this stage and eventually rallied to come within a point with five minutes left in the half. It was a tough physical battle with neither side content give up the ball easily. The half ended with Meath up by the Gallogly goal.

The second half saw much of the same with both sides trading points until Vikki Wall was put through on the Tyrone goal with only the keeper to beat. She duly sent the ball into the back of the net although the resultant tackle saw her having to leave the field of play.

The score now Meath 2 – 14 – Tyrone 12 points! Try as they might Tyrone couldn’t break down the Meath defence enough to get the break they needed. Meath backs worked tirelessly throughout the game and when the whistle eventually went the Meath girls had pulled out their second victory in this U21 Championship. They will now face Galway in two weeks time.
