DOWN LGFA GOALKEEPER ACADEMY

We have had two sessions with the Down Senior Ladies Coach Keith Watters. Keith has focused on quick feet movement, the set position, the low scoop technique and the diving technique. We have received great feedback to date and the girls have really loved the interactive training, the fun and developed new skills. The next session will take place on Monday 25 February at 7pm. Venue tbc. If you are a Ladies Goalkeeper or aspiring to be please come along. Everyone is more than welcome to attend, email: pro.down@lgfa.ie

SENIOR

The ladies have their first home game in the National league on Saturday against Sligo. The game is in Saval with a 2.30pm throw in. Training continues this week, on Tuesday at the Dub in Belfast and on Thursday at Saval.

MINOR – BORN 2001/2002 ONLY

The girls were back in training yesterday after a week off, next training is this Saturday morning so they can go and support the senior ladies at home.

U16 – BORN 2003 ONLY

The girls open for Down Senior ladies this Saturday as they take on Louth in Saval. They follow that with a game against Antrim on Sunday as the girls build towards their opening game against Tyrone.

U15 – BORN 2004 ONLY

The girls have a challenge match against Antrim this coming weekend.

U14 – BORN 2005 ONLY

The girls hosted both Meath and Derry in Castlewellan on Sunday. The girls got off to a shaky start suffering a loss in the first match against Meath. Although the score line went against Down, there were many positives taken from the game. The Down girls applied lessons learned from the first game and were much too strong for Meath in the second match. This continued into the final match against Derry where the girls in red and black comfortably saw of the Derry girls.

Thanks go to referees Francis Rogan and Aidy Sharvin for officiating the games. Coaches also want to thank parents for the continued support during the match and with providing refreshments afterwards. Thanks also Eurospar Castlewellan for the very generous support. Finally, a massive thanks to Castlewellan GAC and Joan King & Neil Johnston for hosting Meath, Derry and Down, very much appreciated.
