The Carbury Ladies travelled to Kilkenny to take on Kilkenny City in the quarter final of the Junior A Leinster Championship.
The visitors got the first score of the game from the boot of Karen Cummins but by the fourth minute the home side were awarded a penalty and duly found the net followed by a point to take the lead 1-1 to 0-1.
Carbury then replied with 2 pts from Karen cummins to narrow the gap.Some fine goalkeeping from Denise Crowe in the carbury goals kept the home side from extending there lead while the wood work also saved carbury on 2 occasions.
Kilkenny were dominating the game and increased there lead with 3 excellent pts to make the score 1-4 to 0-3.
Carbury rallied and to the delight of the large travelling support Catherine o Malley scored a fine goal.However carbury were stunned within moments as the home team found the Carbury net.
The Carbury girls recovered and were to score 2 more pts from Andrea Brereton and Katherine o Malley before the referee called for half time.
Half time score was Kilkenny city 2-4 Carbury 1-5
The second half started with the home team increasing there lead with a point.
The first ten minutes of the second half were eventful with 3 sin binning and a missed penalty.Carbury were down to 13 but this seem to spur carbury on as despite missing the penalty they reduced the deficit with 2 pts from the boot of Catherine o Malley.
Kilkenny increased the lead with another fine pt and then both teams exchanged pts.
With the scoreline 2-6 to 1-8 in favour of the home team and 7 minutes to play Carbury were rocked by a goal from the home team.
The heart shown by these girls throughout the year was reproduced in the remaining few minutes of the game.
From being 4 pts down with 4 minutes left on the clock the girls scored 2 goals within 2 minutes from Shauna o Brien and Catherine o Malley.
Now with a 2pt advantage the Carbury girls were tested to there limit with the home team launching attack after attack to regain the lead.
However it was to be the Carbury girls hour as after withstanding severe pressure within the 30 minutes and the 6 minutes extra time played the referee called for the ball and the match ended with a scoreline of 3-8 to 3-6 in favour of Carbury. All the players deserve great credit for this victory but we must give extra praise to Denise in goals Leanne,Claire and Chloe in defence and Catherine in attack.
We would like to thank the large crowd from Carbury that travelled to Kilkenny and hope to see you again for the Leinster semi final on October 14th.
