Our senior ladies eventually opened their league campaign on Saturday night in Grange, after a couple of postponed games due to the weather. Playing without injured county senior trio, Aimee and Blaithin Mackin and Louise Kenny, Shanes still fielded a fairly young but experienced side.
Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half the Shane’s always looked dangerous going forward and managed to hit the net on five occasions. However, a succession of soft frees kept Grange within striking distance and left Shanes leading by six at half-time.
The second half was a very even affair with the Shane’s defending deep as the wind picked up and using clever counter attacks to keep in front. With time almost up and with the Shane’s holding a two-point lead, a Grange shot took a huge deflection into the net to put them one ahead before one final attack by the Shane’s saw an effort at equalizing fall agonisingly short.
In their first game of the season Shanes ladies will definitely feel it’s a game that should have won but the positives of a good battling performance can be taken forward to the next game at home against Armagh Harps this Monday night, 16th April, at 7.00pm. Special mention must go to young goalkeeper Aoife Brady who made her senior debut and had a great game. Final score: Shane O’Neill’s 8 – 5 Grange 5 – 15.
The Shane’s team and scorers on the night: Aoife Brady, Orlagh McKenna, Emma Kenny, Caroline McMenamin, Hannah McMenamin, Cliodhna Sloan, Hayley Mackin, Orlaith McArdle, Kirsty Murphy, Ciara Jones (1 – 1), Moya Feehan (1 – 0), Jessica Watters, Aoibheann Jones (3 – 3), Sorcha McDonnell (3 – 1), Megan Hughes. Subs Paris Boswell, Sinead McDonnell, Tara Reel, Breenagh Maguire.
Training for our minor girls continues this Monday and Thursday evening at 7.00pm.
Our U16 girls play Dromintee on Thursday evening and all players are asked to meet at the club at 6.00pm. The girls will be hoping to bounce back from a narrow one-point defeat to Killeavy last week. They put in a great performance only to concede a goal late into injury time to lose out by the narrowest of margins.
U12 Girls (P7 & 1st Yr)

Both teams put on a great display of football which saw the young Shane’s girls run out deserving winners….well done to all. Training for our U12 girls continues every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the field from 7.00pm – 8.15pm.
U10s (P5 & P6 Boys and Girls)
Sunday morning saw our U10s travel to Forkhill on Sunday morning. Despite the wet weather conditions both teams put on a great display but it was the young Shane’s who emerged the winners by a couple of scores. Next Sunday sees them attend their first tournament in Silverbridge and training for our U10s, boys and girls, takes place from 6.30pm – 8.00pm every Friday evening at the field.
