U10 LGFA Blitz
Great Saturday morning at Cherryvale with Bredagh hosting the county blitz. Over 70 girls attended – smiled, laughed and played their hearts out, a joy to see! Many thanks to Bredagh for hosting and also to all mentors and large group of parents who braved the weather to support the stars of the future. A draw was made for two teams to attend LGFA U10 activity day in Croke Park on April 15th, this is part of a new initiative being run by LGFA. Congratulations to Bredagh and Carryduff. We are looking forward to seeing photos and hearing about the day.

U14 Feile Peil na nÓg
The Down Ladies Feile Peil na nÓg will be held in Saval on Saturday 9th March. All teams are asked to arrive promptly at 9:45am for registration for the first game at 10am.

Our ladies made the journey to Hyde Park in Roscommon as part of Sunday’s double header before Roscommon v Dublin. Played in very wet and windy conditions, Down defended against the wind in the first half. While the backline remained solid, too often attacks broke down on misplaced kick passes. A Roscommon goal on the stroke of half time gave them a 1-5 to 0-2 lead.
Down came back the second half at a high pace, pinning Roscommon back in their own half for prolonged periods.A harshly disallowed goal from Cristin Brown seemed to energise Down even more but unfortunately possession couldn’t be converted to enough scores, eventually going down by 1-7 to 0-8.
Despite the result, this was a strong Down performance, with only some wayward shooting making the difference in the end.
Scorers: Laoise Duffy and Aoife Keown 0-2 Anna McKee, Sarah Dougherty, Lauren Cunningham, Clara Mulvenna 0-1.

MINOR – BORN 2001/2002 ONLY

The Minor Ladies continues their preparations for next week’s first round game against Fermanagh with a challenge game against Burren Senior Ladies at St Colmans College Newry on Sunday afternoon. The girls played three twenty minute games in bitterly cold and wet conditions. The Management were pleased with the girls attitude and performance and fitness levels and are looking forward to a positive outcome next Saturday. Thanks to Burren Senior Ladies for the game.

U16 – BORN 2003 ONLY
The girls faced the wind and rain on Saturday in Ballykinlar as they continue to build towards league. Details for next week will be announced during the week.

U15 – BORN 2004 ONLY
The girls held a training camp this weekend, kindly hosted by Carryduff GAC. After a pitch based session and a hot lunch, the girls then enjoyed watching a re-run of the 2014 All-Ireland ladies intermediate final which Down won. This was also combined with some video analysis. The day was enjoyed by everyone. The girls are now really looking forward to getting their season started in earnest with an opening fixture away to Monaghan next Saturday in the first round of the Ulster League. Many thanks to the hosts Louise, Mary-Jo and Nuala and also to our new Development Officer Brenda, who kindly stopped by and offered inspirational words to the squad.

U14 – BORN 2005 ONLY

The girls travelled to Glenravel on Saturday for the Ulster U14 festival of football. In difficult weather conditions the team lost to a very competent Antrim side. The girls lifted themselves for the second match and recorded a victory over Fermanagh. This was a tough day but a good learning experience for all. To allow for clubs to prepare for Feile there will be No Tuesday training this week. Our next outing will be day 2 of the Ulster Festival of Football on 16th March
